So, you (or someone you are supporting) has Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funding and are thinking about owning your own accessible and/or robust home?
But, where do you start and how do you make it happen?
This live webinar with SDA specialist Brent Woolgar from DSC, and Support Coordinator & NDIS IAC member Sam Paior from The Growing Space, will lead you through an overview of the process, including:
- Getting a loan and figuring out the money stuff
- Deciding to build new or big renovations?
- Finding and purchasing land or a property
- Matching your funding and needs with your build
- Getting new home plans done well, and NDIS approved
- Making sure the build goes well (choosing and monitoring your builder)
- Figuring out whether to become your own SDA provider, or use a Registered SDA Agent
- Knowing what’s involved in becoming a registered NDIS SDA provider
This 1.5 hour webinar answers the big questions about what to do once you have SDA in your plan – it is NOT about how to get SDA funding in a participant’s plan.
Attendees will also receive a checklist of this process, that is practical and jargon free.
Who is this webinar for?
While targeted at participants and families, this webinar will be invaluable for Support Coordinators and Service Providers looking to understand the process and support their clients.
Note: This training course can be claimed from Core or capacity building support categories for Self or Plan Managed Participants (check with your Plan Manager before you commit!)
What is SDA?
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is a line item in up to 6% of participant’s plans, that is included for 20 years of extra payments for “bricks and mortar” to encourage more accessible home building across Australia.
This webinar was delivered in partnership with The Growing Space.
Principal Consultant, DSC
Brent is a bona fide master of Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) detail, which considering he is an engineer is not surprising. Brent has built his reputation as one of the sector's leading experts in SDA with involvement in over 50 SDA related projects to date, ranging from parent groups, small organisations, large national organisations, state governments, community housing providers, for-profit investors, developers and many financial institutions. What Brent doesn’t know about SDA is probably the stuff the NDIA don’t know themselves yet. Brent brings a unique skill set to NDIS Housing, with over 25 years consulting experience in accessible design as well as a lived experience as the proud father of teenage identical twins, one of whom has cerebral palsy.
Founder/Director, The Growing Space
